Educator Design Challenges

In 2008, Transformation 2013 worked with master science and math educators to design PBLs for the core math and science areas. These design challenges are rigorous, aligned with CSCOPE and include career connections, 21st Century skills and provide STEM connections. Click on the course to see and download the design challenges.

Ecology
Students will learn the make-up of an ecosystem, resource cycles, energy flows, and the impact development has on natural resources.
1st Six Weeks
5C, 9D, 11D, 12A,B,C,D
Biochemistry
In this unit, students will learn the four types of biomolecules. Furthermore, students will learn about how each organism converts and utilizes energy.
1st Six Weeks
9A,B
The Cell

Students will learn the structure and function of the organelles inside the cell and the roles that cells play in everyday life.

4A,B, 5A,B,C, 9C, 11A
Genetics-Cellular Reproduction
Students will be able to compare the process of mitosis and meiosis and their significance to asexual and sexual reproduction. They will also be able to identify DNA mutations and evaluate the implication of these changes.

Cellular Reproduction
2nd Six Weeks
6C,E,F
Genetics

The student will understand the components of DNA and will learn how traits are carried from parent to offspring. The learner will also differentiate between transcription, translation, and RNA.

Evolution
The learner will know the theory of evolution and be able to identify adaptations in species. Students will also learn the outcome of natural selection.
3rd Six Weeks
7A,B
Classification
Students will learn how organisms are classified in taxonomic levels and how organisms are organized based on similarities. The learner will also understand the distinctiveness of kingdoms.
